Why you should support the Kony 2012 campaign

I think it's so cool how a video that spreads all over the world hits you from all directions at the same time. Today I've seen Kony references everywhere, on Swedish blogs, Dutch blogs, and above all, on Facebook. So I decided to watch the movie, and oh my how you have to see it if you haven't yet.

I have recently written an essay on how social media is great in connecting people and spread awareness, but that when it comes to activistic revolutions, people seldom act on what they "share" on Facebook. That is why I got completely hooked by this Kony 2012 campaign. First of all, he must be a master at making persuasive videos, but also, this campaign is not only about stopping Joseph Kony. It is also an experiment, or a moment of truth if you will, where we have the chance to show that social media actually can make a difference. I would like to live in such a world, which is why I'm supporting this campaign even though I'm against the superficial "liking" on humanitarian causes.

As a citizen of The Hague, the international city of peace and justice, it is of vital importance that we show our support here, where the decisions will be taken and where Joseph Kony hopefully will be judged.

Just watch this video and you will see what I'm talking about. Spend 30 minutes of your life to inform yourself on what is going on in the world.

Peace out.
